Working with Robotics: Dr. David Samadi

Early in 2017, Senator and Presidential nominee Mitt Romney was diagnosed with prostate cancer as he was nearing 70 years old. This affliction is nothing new. Many older men fear getting this cancer, and rightly so. Over 160,000 American men are going to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the coming year, according to the American Cancer Society. Luckily, there is a new way to fight this cancer that will keep doctors from having to make tedious manual surgeries or subjecting the victim to harsh radiation therapies. Mitt Romney was one of the individuals who has been fortunate to receive a new and improved robotic surgery to remove the tumor before it spreads. According to Dr. David Samadi, Romney is now free and clear, and his treatment is being hailed as a less invasive way to fight cancer.

This new robotic surgery has been in the works for several years, and many doctors, Samadi included, have been working to bring it to market as soon as possible. While conventional surgeries are much more prone to human error and require a much larger incision, robotic surgeries do not. This means that no transfusion is needed for the surgery and most of the sexual and bladder functions that are so often lost during normal procedures remain intact.

Dr. David Samadi has been working on robotic surgery and urology his whole professional life. Born in Iran, he and his brother were forced to flee the country during the Iranian Revolution in 1979. Focusing on his medical career, Samadi graduated from S.U.N.Y. with his Master’s degree in 1994 and from Montefiore Medical Center with his M.D. He attended trainings at Albert Einstein College, and fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Henri Mondor Hospital.

Samadi has been a prominent figure in the field ever since he first did his own robotic surgery and started to improve the process. He has now done over 7,000 such surgeries and is hailed as one of the premier surgeons for prostate cancer in the world. He has appeared on several talk television shows, and he has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Robotic Surgery, Journal of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and the World Journal of Urology. He has used his knowledge to also create an international lecture circuit. Dr. David Samadi has used his education and his profession to bring awareness and treatment to thousands of men around the world.
